What is an SGO, and how does the tax credit work?
A Scholarship Granting Organization is a nonprofit that collects donations and turns them into scholarships for families attending qualifying K-12 Christian schools.
The federal credit was created by the Educational Choice for Children Act. It is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in your federal tax bill — not a deduction. The federal credit caps at $1,700 for individuals and $3,400 for joint filers.
