GLOSSARY
Terms, explained plainly.
SGO
A Scholarship Granting Organization. A nonprofit that collects donations and distributes scholarships to families at qualifying schools.
Tax deduction
A reduction in taxable income, not your tax bill. Less valuable than a credit. The SGO is a credit, not a deduction.
Voucher
A state-funded payment that covers part of a family's private school tuition.
Step Up for Students
Florida-specific scholarship. Pairs with the federal SGO. The federal credit is for a gift, not a tuition mechanism.
CEN SGO
Christian Education Network Scholarship Granting Organization. The Christian and Catholic K-12 school audience this site serves.
Tax credit
A dollar-for-dollar reduction in your federal tax liability. The Federal School Choice Tax Credit caps at $1,700 individual, $3,400 joint.
ECCA
Educational Choice for Children Act. The federal program under which the national SGO operates.
State stacking
